January Faves

Well, hello, hello, hello! My consistency here has sucked, but that’s for sure changing in February. Before we swing into February, let’s focus on this month. Can you believe January is already coming to an end? It feels like just yesterday that we were ringing in the new year. I hope everyone’s January was a great first step into 2018. We got 11 more steps to go! With each month that goes by I wanna reflect on it and highlight the best things about that month from hobbies to habits to routines to television to music to skincare. So without further ado, here’s my January faves list (in no particular order).

  • Decaffeinated Coffee

I know it sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but this stuff is legit and fantastic. I’m trying to cut back on my caffeine intake as much as possible, but I’ve gotta have coffee. It’s more than just a drink. It’s like a liquid salute to a new morning in a mug. Decaffeinated coffee is a bit misleading though since it has a bit of caffeine in it, but not as much as normal coffee. So, if you’re trying to cut back on caffeine and you still want a little kick in the butt in the morning, I highly suggest giving this a shot. The Folgers Flavors Hazelnut Decaf is my current go to.

  • Tasty

I can binge watch the heck out of Tasty’s YouTube videos I’ve been getting into learning how to cook, but I don’t want to be bored while doing so. These up-tempo videos definitely satisfy that. The channel offers everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner, beginner’s guides, snacks, vegan dishes, healthy dishes, desserts. You name it! Tasty is great for the aspiring or veteran cook looking for some creative, fun dishes. This mac and cheese recipe with Terry Crews is one of the best. Gotta love Terry Crews.

  • Chia Seeds

Along with learning how to cook, I’ve been trying to get into a healthier lifestyle where I can still enjoy my favorite foods, but make sure I’m taking care of my body at the same time. Out of the new things I’ve been getting into, chia seeds is by far my favorite. Ancient Aztec warriors would travel with chia seeds as their only resource due to the amount of energy it emits. This superfood not only provides energy, but protein, fiber, omega fatty acids, and antioxidants as well. They can be used in various ways, but my favorite way of eating them is in my yogurt. I recently tried them in my tea last night too, and I really liked it. When in liquid, the seeds become pudding-like, kinda like a seedy boba. Although I’ve heard they don’t really have flavor, I feel they add a nice taste.

  • Jazzhop/Chillhop/Lo-Fi

This super cool fusion of Jazz and Hip Hop is relaxing. This caters to the people who enjoy a chill, instrument-based sound and cool beats. Listen to this while you’re writing, drawing, and so on. I’m the type of person who can’t write to music that’s really busy and lyrical. The beautiful simplicity of this genre gives me the room I need to hear myself think and still hear the beats. Listen to it while you’re writing or drawing. Listen to it while you’re doing your skincare routine at night to wind down. I just typed Jazzhop into Spotify and checked out a playlist, and that’s the one I’ve stuck to since. There’s also a YouTube channel that plays it 24/7, which you can find here. Check out Summer Crush by Tomppabeats. It samples Diana Ross’ 1984 hit I’m Missing You.

  • Oh, My, My, My by Troye Sivan

Pop music did NOT come to play in 2018. Among the new pop releases that came out at the beginning of this year, was Troye’s new single. This lust-driven track offers a new excitement that Troye hinted at on his Blue Neighborhood album. The music video is amazing too. All of my fellow pop lovers should give it a listen.

  • The Amber Argan Oil Line from Bath & Body Works

This line. Wow. Standing ovation for Bath & Body Works. I got the body butter, fine fragrance mist, and sugar scrub for Christmas. When I picked it out while Christmas shopping, it was the fragrance mist that drew my attention. It’s a gentle, unique fragrance. I was also attracted to the fact that it had argan oil in it. Although the spray had me sold, it’s the sugar scrub that has me hooked. Once you use it, it feels like you’ve been swimming in lotion. It’s mad moisturizing. The body butter is lovely too. Don’t let me get started on the packaging. It’s a gorgeous, rose gold, which really catches my eye right now. Next time you’re at Bath & Body Works, give this stuff a sniff. I checked the products out online today, and they’re doing a mix and match buy 3, get 2 free, or buy 2 get 1 free. Take advantage of the sales since their products are pretty pricey. There are other scents, but the Amber one is my favorite.

No, I’m not biased. The fact that it’s called Amber is just a plus.

  • Grown-ish

I love this show. When you watch it, it’s easy to think “Wow, they’re talking about hooking up, boys, and drugs a lot. Is this really what college is all about?”, but when I think about it, it’s a pretty realistic depiction of what it feels like to be a college newbie for some. I know when I first started college my mindset was in a completely different place. I was sidetracked and not too focused on my grades at first. I got good grades still, which comes as a surprise. God’s grace is amazing and it’s no joke. I really think Grown-ish started on a strong foot, and I look forward to seeing Zoey and everyone else mature. I think gradual, consistent, believable character development is what will make the show even more realistic and relatable. It’s very eye-opening too, especially when it comes to race, sexuality, and the future. If you’re looking for something to watch tonight, catch it on Freeform.

Also, Trevor Jackson is super attractive.

  • The Grammys (Teeny tiny rant warning)

The Grammys a.k.a the night of pros and cons. The Grammys is my equivalent to the Superbowl, so I always look forward to seeing it every year. A lot of my favorites won awards and the performances were superb. One thing that really bothered me though was the Infamous Robbery of Solana Imani Rowe a.k.a SZA was robbed. She was nominated for 5 Grammys! How did she not win one? CTRL spoke to the masses, my friend. Her song Drew Barrymore spoke to me during the messiness that was my relationship status in 2017. Her album really hit home for us twenty-somethings. Not just twenty-somethings, but anyone can relate to her music! It offers a painful vulnerability coated in appealing musicality.

This wasn’t supposed to be just a rant post. I truly enjoyed the Grammys. Believe me. Bruno and Kendrick slayed.

  • Wednesday Night TV with My Parents

Right now my Wednesdays nights provide me with great television and bonding over it with my parents. For four hours straight, we enjoy the entertaining storylines found within 9-1-1, Grown-ish, Alone Together, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, and as of last week, Catfish (I’m pretty sure my parents only watch Grown-ish and Alone Together because there’s a gap between 9-1-1 and The Assassination of Gianni Versace, but they enjoy it nonetheless and it’s great.) If you’re looking for ways to spend time with family, something as simple as sitting down and watching TV together creates a sense of togetherness. If you see a show that you and your parents or siblings are both interested in, check it out together.

  • Bed Workouts

Lazy girl hack achieved. One morning, in the midst of me trying to start up a workout routine, I was hit by my inevitable laziness. My greatest downfall. My solution came in the form of bed workouts! Look them up on YouTube, Pinterest, and so on! I start off with a quick morning bed yoga, which you can find here, and then I do some workouts that I found on Pinterest, and ones I was already doing that I discovered you can do in bed. Don’t let your laziness stop you from tightening that booty. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

  • JuicyJas

JuicyJas is like my YouTube best friend. She provides viewers with makeup and skincare suggestions, reviews, routines, and more. Not to mention, complete honesty. She got me into TJMaxx, and for that, I will forever be grateful. She highlights good inexpensive, drugstore products and supports the fact that high end doesn’t always mean quality. She’s also really humble and committed to her education, which is very cool. Check her out here.

  • Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion/ Equate Ultra Restoring Lotion

In these cold months, I deal with drier skin. If you can relate to this struggle, I would for sure check out the Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion. It’s incredibly moisturizing and restoring. You can feel it working pretty fast too. It’s pricey for drugstore lotion so a great dupe for it would be Wal-Mart’s Equate Ultra Restoring Lotion (It even says compare to Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion. They mean business, guys.) It’s a bit thicker than the Gold Bond lotion, but it works just as great.

And there ya’ go, my favorite things from January! Let me know if you check out some of these things and we can geek out together. Tell me some of your favorites from January! I love checking out new stuff. Catch you in February!

Nothing but mad love,

Ambizzle ❤
